Make it about me

I read in a Psychology Today article that when we get to talk about ourselves, we find the conversation that we're in way more fun and interesting. If you've ever been a guest on a podcast, you've probably found yourself exclaiming at the end of the recording, "That was really fun!" Because you got to talk about yourself the whole time!

"In a research report in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, study subjects showed signs of activity in the areas of the brain that are linked to value and motivation when they talked about themselves," said Samantha Boardman M.D.

"Talking about oneself activates the same areas of the brain that light up when eating good food, taking drugs, and even having sex. Simply put, self-disclosure is gratifying. It gives us a neurological buzz."

So when you craft an event agenda that lets people share stories about themselves or their experiences, they leave with a more positive sentiment about the event overall.
